My Self- Reflection

Volunteer is something important for a person; it helps you gain experiences, also helping people in their jobs. As I started taking this course community service I wasn't very confident about myself that I could volunteer in a place. But as I took the course and started volunteering it was something nice and new and really it was a very nice experience. Also people should consider volunteering is something important.

But we have some difficulties at the start because we some problems where to volunteer, because we have chosen food control then they bailed on us, so we didn't have much time and no other options but to volunteer at the college. We have volunteered at the college’s library, the academic service, the reception, and the student council, and the recycle program. Through my volunteer experience I have observed certain and important skills that benefits me in my life.

These skills are personality, communication as I volunteered at the reception talking to people and answering the phone calls, IT skills as I was at the library I was cleaning the computer updating stuff, and patience when we were looking for a recycling company that has the right services.

These experiences that I have gained have changed me; it made me a better person because I became more confident about myself. I've learned to be patient not get angry and if someone was angry I absorb has anger and I calm him down. I am not shy anymore because I learned how to communicate with people and have a conversation with them.

This course is a very interesting course, and the teacher was very helpful because he listens to us and when problem had, he was patient and extended the deadline for the plan. So this course has really made me a better person and I really really advice and encourage people to volunteer not just for the college course but in their daily lives.

Purpose / What do you wish to accomplish ?

Gain as much experience as we can and different skills possible from voluntary work. And make a change in all HCT Departments.

Get a project from the student council and work on it; we got the recycling plan for the college.

Time Schedule:  

Spread Around the Week. (Mainly in Community Service’s class time)

Hardcore 16 hours. 

First week Self and communication skills and experience

 Second week recycling group project

To be successful:

First we need to enhance our communication skills, and observation skills. Also, the ability to act on spot.

Second, to get the most suitable recycling company for the college and make recycling a major thing in the college.

Benefits to participants:

First we gain experience and skills that will help us in our lifetime

. Second we will make recycling bins for the college that will help making it green and use the papers for something good.

Problems we might go through:

We already went to many problems like being turned down from a huge authority, which made us make up another plan really fast that will be effective as well. So the only problem we might face is being turned down by the recycling companies now.

Will today we started our third day of volunteering. Last week we found out the recyling company that has the suitble agreements for our college, and we have got their propsal from Zone waste papers.
 However it will take a while to get the agreement form the director of the college. So we told the student council to get thing going on. So they told us to look for the suitable places because they only agreed to give us 30 bins, also we asked the people and the faculiy that will fit them properly.

Will we looked around the college and we found out many places and the most places that uses papers is the library beacuse many students are gathering there and are studying for their exams, doing thier homeworks, and projects. Further more, the J block uses many papers, and then comes the M block and F block and also the facultiy room.

Will  I wasn't very happy beacuse today was very rough day, because we had to move alot, walk under ther very hot weather and hot sun, it was very very tough day. I like the recyling company and so on, but today was not good because of the terrible weather.

Will we started our third day of volunteering me with my group mates saif and eissa and ahmed. Will today the student council gave us a new mission and that is we look for recycling companies to come to our college. Will we sat down and looked for so many companies and we found out three and we contact them to see what are their conditions.

 The first company which is called Zaytoono recycling and their conditions were 6 by 6 metal case, weekly visit and free.

 The second company is Mahy Khoory recycling and their conditions were 6 by 6 metal case, fast agreement, free, monthly visit , and need to call before one day to pick up the waste.

The last company was the Zone waste were their conditions were big boxes spread in the college, free if over 500 kg, monthly or weekly visit. We showed these companies to the student council and they agreed with last company so we contact the last company and we agreed to them.

 Today was also another new experience to me and it was something nice to care about recycling and i hope that everyone care about it to, it was tough for us to find the company but it feels good when you find something that you want.

Will today I've started the second day of volunteering. Today me and Eissa Al mehariri worked in the reception of Abudhabi men's college, we switched with our other partners. Will my job is that I answer the phone calls and transferring them to the teachers that clients ask for them. Also it;s my job to help people like i confirm their meetings, having some problems and I help them. However, also I confirm meetings for the head of Abudhabi men's college.

 Further more, I send emails, faxes, text messages for the head. Will this was a new experience for me, and l liked it so much because this experience will of benefits me in my future and the best thing that I loved it here is that helping people.

Will finally we have started volunteering with my group at the Abudhabi men's college, where we were separated  that each two work in a place each day. Will today I started volunteering by working at the Admc library me and Eissa.

We are supposed to organize the books and arranging them in the alphabetical order. Also we organized and cleaned the power point and word files in each computer in the library so it is easy for the students to use the computers.

 Further more, we updated the java in each computer of the library and restarting it so it is ready for the students. We helped the staff that are working at the library and saved a lot of time for them, also how we can use the computers very well and we learned how to clean the computer and to update, and by organizing the books in the right way.

I loved this new experience and l liked a lot how we help other people how we saved them from doing a lot of work and saved them a lot if time.
